Summer is ending and football season is starting, but that does not mean Hurricane season is over (and we don’t mean “the U”, although we wish the FAU Owls a great season). Hurricane season starts June 1st and lasts through November 30th, however, peak season is around September 10th when water temperatures, off the Florida coast, begin to cool off and storms are continually generated off the African west coast. Fortunately, South Florida hasn’t seen a drastic storm since Hurricane Andrew in 1992 and even though it was over two decades ago, Floridians should always be prepared for any type of tropical storm. The American Red Cross suggests it is always a good idea to have a small closet space set aside for preparedness storage. Make sure you keep you and your family safe by knowing the evacuation plan and any alternate routes to safety. For more information, visit: http://www.redcross.org/prepare/disaster-safety-library
